WordPress 6.9リリース

WordPress 6.9がリリースされた。ブロガー、クリエイター、サイトオーナー向けの機能改善が含まれる。

主な新機能：

コラボレーション機能：

  • Block-level Notes：ブロックに直接フィードバックを残せ、スレッド形式で解決可能なノートを追加可能。著者は新しいコメントが来ると自動的にメール通知を受信
  • Hide and Show：ブロックを削除せずに表示/非表示を切り替え可能
  • ビジュアルドラッグアンドドロップ：ブロックを移動する際の配置先をプレビュー表示
  • Allowed blocks UI：コンテナ内で許可するブロックタイプを指定可能（以前はコードビューでのみ編集可能）

新しいブロック：

  • Accordion block：折りたたみ可能なセクション
  • Term Query block：カテゴリやタグページの構築を簡素化
  • Time-to-Read block：推定読了時間を表示
  • Math block：LaTeXによる数式表示
  • Comment CountとComment Link blocks：コメント数とコメントリンクを分離

Command Palette：

  • WP Adminダッシュボード全体で利用可能に。Ctrl/Cmd + Kで任意の管理画面から検索/コマンドバーを開き、アクションを実行またはコンテンツにジャンプ可能
  • 開発者はExtensible Commandsでカスタムコマンドを登録可能

WP Engine is banned from WordPress.org

WordPress.org は WP Engine を Banned したと公表しました。 具体的には WP Engine のホスティングサービスを利用しているユーザーは、WordPress.org のプラグインやテーマなどのリソースを利用できなくなりました。

以前から、WordPress の商用利用権を保持する Automattic 社の CEO である Matt Mullenweg は、 WP Engine が収益に対してコミュニティへの貢献が少ないことや一部の機能を意図的に無効化していること、商標利用などを理由に、WP Engine を繰り返し批判していました。具体的な内容については次の記事が詳しいので興味があれば参照してください。

Matt 側は訴訟を起こされ係争中であるため WP Engine を制限したと述べていますが、WP Engine 側は Matt の今までの行為に対して訴訟ではなく書簡を送ったところ、今回の事態に発展したと述べています。

現状はプラグインの利用自体に制限はありませんが、WP Engine の提供するプラグインである ACF や Local は非常に人気があり、多くのサイトが利用しているため、今後の動向が注目されます。
